The wait is over! Arguably the biggest match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, 2022 - India versus Pakistan - is all set to take place in Melbourne. There is usually a massive build-up around this marquee clash, and it is the same again, but this time under the enormous threat of rain. We will also address the elephant in the room at the beginning. There is currently a 90 per cent chance of any rain that day, and things wear a grim look. Cricket fans across the globe, especially from India and Pakistan, will be praying to the rain gods to stay away, but without getting too hopeful, one can at least hope for a 5-over shootout if the forecast proves to be correct. Now, let's switch our attention away from the uncontrollable. These two teams clashing swords in international cricket is a rare phenomenon, but in the recently concluded Asia Cup, they exchanged punches and shared the honours 1-1. That said, Pakistan featured in the final of that tournament and India were shockingly knocked out by the eventual winner, Sri Lanka. Since then, the Indian team got its act together to outclass Australia and South Africa in a bilateral series at home and will have momentum, especially after a thrilling win against the host nation in one of the warm-ups. Their main concern is death bowling in Jasprit Bumrah's absence, and Mohammad Shami, after his heroic last over against Australia in the practice game, could have given the team management a sigh of relief. Apart from that, the Men in Blue have grappled with the inconsistent form of their famed batting line-up and will need everyone to step up in their tournament opener against the arch-rivals. On the other hand, Pakistan also have had their fair share of success since losing the Asia Cup final. They were involved in an intense 7-match T20I series against England at home, losing 3-4, but in conditions similar to Australia, Pakistan participated in a tri-series in New Zealand and won four out of the five games, including the final. The Men in Green have got a shot in the arm with Shaheen Afridi's return which makes their bowling group lethal. But all is not rosy with Pakistan's batting department. Their top order oozes class, but the middle order remains their soft underbelly. Both teams have their strengths and flaws, and fixing the loopholes will be paramount. The MCG is a great venue for batting, but its dimensions square of the wicket on both sides are quite big, and the batters will have to plan their innings judiciously. Expect a high-octane contest, provided there is no rain.
